1834 long gun. Family legend is gun was made in Northern state. was used in the Civil War and captured by a southern solider in Virgina, taken to Kentucky, and fitted for Southern bullets. Passed through family, donor unsure of which battle involved with. Alex Burke noted that Union only used own guns early in the war. but, cap nipple drilled directly into barrel. clearly been gun-smithed. donated by Helen Grant, member of United Daughters of Confederacy (UDC) Ft. Lewis chapter number #742. |
